About Roger Brown, Naval Architect

Since obtaining his degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan, Roger Brown has been involved in several aspects of boat design and construction. After spending a year at production sailboat builder Catalina Yachts, Roger served as Chief Engineer at Ericson Yachts for seven years, developing expertise in design and production techniques for composite boats.

Roger then spent another seven years at Alan Andrews Yacht Design, designing composite custom racing and cruising sailboats and commercial powerboats to individual clients' specifications. He specialized in engineering of composite structures complying with American Bureau of Shipping scantlings. He also designed systems and structures conforming to ABYC, US Coast Guard and ORC requirements.

In 1998, Roger founded his own naval architecture and design business. Since then he has been involved with a large variety of design projects, including racing and cruising sailboats, power yachts, commercial vessels, military vessels and other composite structures. His design philosophy is simply to listen carefully to the client's needs and desires, then provide a comprehensive design solution while delivering value.
